Active Living

Active Living is a way of life that integrates physical activity into your daily routine. This includes walking to school or biking to work. Increasing physical activity is a way to reduce the risk of obesity and promote health among the community.

Local Strides, with assistance from the Community Transformation Grant Project, works to increase the number of communities in Eastern North Carolina that implement comprehensive land use plans that consider the health of their community, by adding bike lanes, sidewalks, and other recreational options.

The project will also work with local organizations to adopt and promote joint-use agreements.  This will increase access to physical activity opportunities that weren’t available before.  All of the efforts by Local Strides are designed with the community’s health in mind; if you’re more physically active, you’ll live a healthier, happier life.

This is how we are making Active Living the easy choice in Eastern North Carolina:

  • Increase the number of new or revised comprehensive plans that include health considerations.
  • Increase the number of joint-use agreements to increase access to physical activity opportunities.
